Anticipation Guide

Agree or Disagree

The most important aspect is to justify your response. Be sure to use logical examples. Think as if you were trying to convince someone to agree with your statement.

1) People under 18 should be punished for crimes the same way adults are.

2) It is better for young people to establish trust with their peers than with adults.

3) Someone who can't read is unintelligent.

4) It is good to talk about racism.

  1. 1. I disagree because they are only children and it’s not the same thing if an adult steals
something and a when a kid steals something. Kids and adults are so NOT the same because
adults have different rights than kids. They get to smoke, drive, work, etc. all those things
that kids can’t do. I think that the parents of the kids that do bad stuff should take the
    responsibility.
    2. I agree because actually your parents don’t really have to do anything in the life with your
friends. That’s one of the only things that they aren’t really involved into.
    3. I totally disagree because first of all that’s discriminating and second, it’s not their fault that
they can’t read. They were born that way so they can’t really control the way that they were
    born.
    4. I agree because the more you talk about racism positively when you’re young, you won’t
talk about it negatively when you are older. So when you learn not to be racist you won’t be
    racist.

  2. 1.yes,because if this person is CRAZY he will continue to hurt or steel or kill etc people

2.yes, because your peers have the same problems as you so they may help! however adults are sometimes smarter!

3.yes, because if he was intelligent he would already be a good reader.

4.no, because its not their fault that they became like that

  3. 1. 1. I strongly disagree because if a kid does something bad, they should be told off by the police and grounded by their parents but not go in prison if you are less than 18 years old! Kids are sometimos impulsive.
    2. 2. I agree because your friends maybe have the same problems as you, so they could help you.
    3. 3. I disagree because it is discriminative and maybe they never learnt how to read, but people can tell them stuff so they aren’t dumb.
    4. 4. I disagree because it is discriminative, mean and silly. It also unrespectful towards the people you are talking about. You are also being racist and if you are racist, you should be ashamed of yourself.

  4. sorry of reputing on both numbers on my comment, i didn't do it on purpose.

  5. I. I really really really disagree! If a child stole an IPhone the mum will notice and be angry at the child. But the child is really small and didn’t really know (they learn for their life); but grown ups should know. They are old enough to take responsibility for them self’s. I think the parents have to take more responsibility for the child.
II. I would rather trust my friends. I would trust them more because they understand why and what your problems are. You have to tell your parents every slightest detail. They don’t understand what your problem is. Your friends are always with you, maybe been there when the problem happened. You are shoulder to shoulder with that friend.
III. I DISAGREE! First of all maybe they are good at math and is a good friend. That’s how they are born, they can’t change it (although they wish so)!
IV. I agree! It is not mean as long as you aren’t talking bad about racism. It is unfair (talking mean) about black people. It is the same as the black talking about the white how they look strange. Anyway the baddies were the white, for being mean!!!!!!!!!

  6. 1. I don't quite agree with that because their parents might give them a hard time so that they would want to do something to show that they are big enough. I think that they must get a punishment according to their age and then they should be forgiven (or only be forgiven without the punishment), but they don’t have to get the “adult’s” punishment.
    2. I don’t agree because their parents and adults can give them more respect and responsibility.
    3. I don’t agree because he can be better in other different things besides reading or writing. He can be good, for example, in talking, or in understanding things, or in counting.
    4. I agree because they are talking and getting new ideas how to stop racism.

  7. 1 sometimes yes and sometimes no. Yes because he could a lot more crimes and no because he is not even 18 years old.
2 yes because parents will understand you and they can help you if you need (they are smarter)
3 I disagree because if they can't read it doesnt mean they are bad.
4 I disagree because you are just being mean to people that you are talking about

  8. 1, I disagree because children need to learn what is right and wrong. If an adult does something wrong they have learnt that it is wrong.

2,I agree because you spend more time at school and with your friends than at home. So if they trust you they will be more kind thus you having a better time.

3,I disagree because they still have a brain they still can walk play games and sports so if you can do all of that i think your intelligent.

4,I agree if your talking about it nicely but if not I disagree.

  9. 1. It depends. If you were under age 11, I would disagree, but if you were above age 11, that gets complicated. Sometimes people commit a crime when they are between ages 11 to 18 because they have a disability or because they are mentally insane, but other times people someone because they have something against them. I agree to having kids who aren't mentally insane and who have done wrong (twice if they are from ages 11 to 14) should have the same punishments as adults, but I strongly disagree with putting a child in jail if they are from ages 0 to 11. I disagree with putting a child in jail if they are from ages 0 to 11 for 2 reasons, the first is that the child isn't old enough to realize that they have committed a crime , and the second reason is, if you put a child in jail at a young age, then the child will never see the good in things, and all the child will know about is evil and hatred and bad things that make the child commit to a life of crime as soon as they get out of jail.
    2. Again, it depends. if you had to choose between establishing trust with your peers or establishing trust with adults, either answer would be right. You want to establish trust with adults because then you have more opportunities to learn in a fun way, and you also can do bigger tasks and challenges, because the adult who assigns these challenges will trust that you can handle it, not be unsure about wether or not you can do it, and when an adult isn't so sure about something, you usually go back to doing the boring, not at all fun things. On the other hand, you need to establish trust with your peers, that way when you get put in groups to do something, again, you can assume a bigger role, and then you can trust your friends when you tell them secrets, and vice versa.
    3. I strongly disagree with the statement because if someone can't read it doesn't mean that they are unintelligent, it just means that they can't read. The person who can't read may have never had a chance to read, or might have a disability or a mental issue the prevents them from reading, but that doesn't mean they are done. Reading is like a whole other language. first you have to know the alphabet, then you have to know how to write, then you have to learn how to figure out complicated words, and even then you don't fully know how to read. your always learning. another way to truly get this sentence is to think of the sentence this way, "your dumb because you don't know greek".
    4. I agree with talking about racism, because you aren't being racist. It is also a good thing to talk about racism, because they you are aware of what racism is, and you know how to cope with racism if someone is being racist to you, and you also know how to prevent people from being racist. The other thing about racism is that it is best to talk about with an adult or to have an adult listening in, that way people don't get the wrong ideas, and so that the talk doesn't turn in to you and your friend/peer being racist to each other. If you were talking about how good racism is, and how to be racist to someone, and thinking of ways for you to be racist to someone, then I totally disagree, but if you are speaking correctly about racism, then it is all right, but by no means should you ever, ever, ever be racist.

  10. 1. I disagree because people under the age of 18 are less mature and might not know what they are doing and how bad it is. However adults know what they are doing and can make their own choices.
    2. I agree because people your own age understand you. They also know your problems and can help solve them but adults might not understand because they are not your age.
    3. I disagree because they might be good at other things so they might not be dumb even if they can't read. If they can do other things then they would still be intelligent.
    4. It depends, I would agree if they were talking about in in a good way like trying to stop it and being aware of it.But I would disagree if they were talking about it in a bad way.

  11. 1) I disagree that children under 18 need to be punished as bad as an adults are because a child may steal something and he might not understand if it's bad or good .He might do this just because he saw it in a movie for example.
2)I disagree because adults have more experience. They already passed the your age. When they were your age they maybe had the same problems. But on the other hand I think that your peers might understand you more and faster.
    3) I would of agreed if it was in the past where the only source of information and knowledge were books .Then if you didn't read you would not know anything. But now we have audiobooks and so if you dont know how to read you may just listen to an audiobook and you will get almost the same info as you get from books.
4)Actually it depends on what you say about racism because if you say that it's bad than it is good to talk about it so children from the early childhood will understend that it's bad. but if you talk about it just like a normal thing Ex. Russians should hate Germans because Adolf Hitler was fighting with them. If you say this kind of stuff then to talk about racism is bad.

  12. 1.Disagree- I disagree because the person becomes adult from 18. It's not fair to punish children as adults. But also they can be punished as adults if the crimes are big.
    2. Agree- I'm agree because I think it's better to share secrets with the person same age as you than with an adult because they might not understand you.
    3. Disagree - Peoples manners are not depends on their reading. (How they read.)
    4. Disagree - It's not good to talk about racism because it can hurt other peoples.

  14. 1. DISAGREE. People under 18 should NOT be punished for crimes because the behavour of the kids depands on their parents bevovour. So if their parents are criminals or do bad stuff, they show a bad example of behavour. Parents should be good role models for their kids. So if kids do bad stuff its their parents fault.
    2. DISAGREE. Its better for young people to estabilish trust with adoults because they have more experience and they know more. But sometimes its better to share with their peers becouse sometimes adoults tell same things and their peers sometimes know you more, so they can give an advice.
    3. DISAGREE. People that cant read don't have to be unintelligent because they can still think and talk ad look. They can still participate in educating process without reading. Or maybe thy don't have a chance to learn to read.
    4. DISAGREE. We shouldn't talk about racism because on one side racism should not even exist. But on the other side we should talk about it to purswade people change their mind and STOP RACISM!

  16. Children Who Have Troubled Homes Will Always Have Troubles When They Grow-Up
    (Number 5)
    by: Anja Hetsch

I DISAGREE because many kids do become very successful and happy when they grow-up, even if their homes were never really welcoming. Some pop-stars or other musicians have had a terrible childhood, including some parents that have divorced, but have become very famous and did not have any troubles about finding jobs and friends. Other people had had houses that were damaged, bills that were not payed because they were poor, but most of all, parents that kept on fighting over one finding a job the other being to lazy. But later, these people did get great friends and got good jobs like professional dentists or famous photographers! Some athletes have even been orphans in orphanages, where the other orphans might have been quite mean to them, and the caretaker couldn’t take care of everyone at once of course so some kids had gotten beat up sometimes. Still, they became athletes and got happy families and friends when they grew-up. Some people with usual jobs like selling cars, working in a shop, or else what, might also just have had a terrible home, including several divorces, new ‘Mums and Dads’ ,friends laughing them out for several reasons and other ‘dramatic’ situations. But they had a really nice life too, maybe they did not get really famous but they got to spend much more time with family, love and happiness. So it does not really matter how somebody’s homes are, as long as they follow their dreams and go straight for it, and do not become like the people they are with ( if those are bad people :).
