I agree!
We children can make many small changes, but still can help change lives. we can make ourselves heard, to get people to help fight against the problem.
Also children can see the problem of our future, but adults think that the children are to dumb to recognize the global problems.
There are too ways of helping... You can protest against something, like my mum did when she was younger. She protested against killing animals for fur. But now, sadly, that doesn’t happen any more, that often.
Or you can invent something, like FaceBook.  A young boy invented FaceBook, so you can communicate to each other, what ever country you are in. that was a little problem before, but now its solved because of a teenager!
The major causes  are Local causes and Enviromental causes.
I was once walking in a park in Austria, I passed some children selling hot chocolate. A girl,  asked, "Would you like to help support our park and playground? It's only 1 Euro a cup." I couldn't help saying no to our park. It seems that this group of kids, who were having great fun,  that they were helping a local cause. I think that it feels great to help someone! No matter your age or the size,  you can change something, what ever you do. baking cookies, donating toys, making hot coco.  and you can help by, jut buying a hot coco!! its easy, but you have to see the problem, if you think
Quote: ‘ Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed children can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has!’

1) Parents treat their children equally

1) Parents treat their children equally...

I disagree. Parents may try to treat their
children equally, but in my opinion, often do not succeed. Age is one of the influences on parents, also position within the family (oldest, middle, baby etc). An example would be when there is a small age gap between siblings, like my sister and I, then the younger may get things at the same time as their older sibling - just like my sister and I! She gets what I get (electronics, bed times, movie rating, sleepovers etc).
The first born child gets all the attention until another child comes along .This might be why the eldest can feel that they do not get as much time and attention, because they are used to it ALL!
Personality has something to do with it, some children demand more attention than others.
As the eldest I am the 'experiment' - the first which means parents are not experienced, they learn as the child grows.
Most children think that they get less attention than their siblings and that "it's not fair"! Children exaggerate differences in what they are allowed, children can be prone to bragging to their siblings so that their sibling is jealous of them.
Another influence on the parents would be the amount of time they have for the child. If one of the children have got homework, ASA etc. when the parent has free time, obviously their other children would get the attention at this time.
Although no parent likes to admit that they have favourite children, they might. Maybe some parents don't even like some of their children. This can happen, but people don't like to talk about it.
The amount of attention that is given will vary according to circumstances, if a child is sick, has a disability, is struggling with school etc. then they will usually gets more attention because they need it.

So as you can see, I think that there are very many reasons why parents do not treat their children equally.

The Tulip Touch-Anticipitation Guide- Carlo

7. Sometimes it’s fun to do bad things even if people might be hurt in the process.

I Agree, because not every human is perfect and they will never always make the correct choices. Everybody has already done something bad to someone and they could have been hurt, not physical but also emotional. For example if you call someone a bad thing or you swear at them you would find it fun but the other person might be hurt by it. Another great example is bullying, because the bully will find it fun and the victim won’t the victim will be hurt, no mather if it is verbal or physical bullying.

So I will come to the conclusion that I agree that it is fun to do bad things even if people might be hurt in the process because it is naturaly human to do bad things and not always be perfect.

Anticipation guide

I strongly agree with statement number 6, because I have seen the result of it many many times. Kids in troubled homes or even the opposite homes where they are not cared for, grow up to have many problems in school and in the society a lot. Those problems consist mostly because of lack in knowledge about how to behave with others, or realizing that you are not the only human being in the world that needs to be cared. These human beings talk rudely and think that they can do anything they want. If they are hit and cared for badly, or too much. They start demanding freedom and independence. To show their freedom they complete actions that are against their parents will. These things are tobacco, alcohol, drugs, and illegal services. All of this leads up to problems in adulthood life. The freedom demander’s have two choices. Either to be free and abandon their parents, or to finally listen to their parents and be pigeonholed. When the spoilt ones grow up and if their parents are wealthy all they do is they blow away the money of their parents. If their parents are not rich they find a slob activity such as Video games or TV so their daily timetable is very limited “Eat, sleep, video games”. Their parents do not care as long as they do not disturb them.

I really liked the book. (i cant click on the chart above)
Book Review:
My independent reading selection is from a very famous author called Anthony Horowitz, the name is More Bloody Horowitz. It is a book with more than 1 little stories, it has 10 stories. It was published on the 6th of September in 2010. The genre of the book is horror but it also contains a little bit of a thriller. It is very bloody and very catchy because the stories are short but very well written. All of the stories are very good and really stay with the genre horror. One of my favorite stories was were there is a writer and he writes on a horror story for 11 years and then somebody copies the book. He then kills that person and i won’t give out the ending. The book is very good and it reminds me of this other horror book that i read in 5th grade. I would really recommend everybody to read this book because it is very good.

Liza's book review.
My book is called "Mini Shopaholic" by Sophie Kinsella. The genre of the book is romantic comedy. There's about 414 pages in the book. The book was published in 2011. I started reading this book in August 2011 and finished in October 2011. In the rating out of IO i would give it a IO because its rare for me to find a book that i would just LOVE reading. And that book is one of them. I would recommend this book to teen readers or more like 13+ aged people because it describes the life problems and situations of people who are in their 20ies-30ies because its more understandable than. For me that book was interesting because it was so exciting, and also because i love romantic comedy stories. The story is about Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood), who is the main character. She is so happy that she became a mother, and now she has a daughter which is now two. For Becky it was the dream come true, and now she has a shopping friend for the rest of the life. But it becomes harder than she thought. But a two-year-old Minnie has a different approach to shopping. She can randomly hire a taxi, she always screams "miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine" and she can even order bags on Ebay.
And on top of everything else there is a bid financial crisis. People are having to Cut Back including all of Becky's personal shopping clients. And also Becky and Luke (husband) are still living with her parents, which is quite a pain for all of them. And to cheer everyone up, Becky decides to make a surprise party to Luke on a budget, and then it becomes REALLY complicated. When Becky gets fired from her job, the serious finance problems start. The only person that comes to help her with money is Luke's mom Elinor, who Becky and Luke absolutely dislikes. But when Elinor and Becky started working together on Luke's surprise party it all started turning good. All Becky's friends also started helping and finally it becomes a FUROR!!

Holes Paired Readings I

Holes- Voicethread

Grade 6 In-class Task Sheet

What goes around, comes around: how does
what we do today affect tomorrow?

Have a minute to think about how the guiding question relates to our novel.

You will view a series of images related to themes, characters, and events in our novel. You need to analyze how these images relate to the ideas presented by our Guiding Question.

There are three images. There will be three types of responses.

1) Observation- Identify what we are looking at. Who or what is the image of? - Simple, but try to be detailed (Criteria A).

2) Analytical- Identify the image in terms of What goes around, comes around: how does
what we do today affect tomorrow? Identify what significance these individuals or items have had in the narrative (story). More so, identify how they have had an important role in shaping the present and future of the characters in the novel.

3) Creative- Write a first person narrative from one of the characters that you feel directly relate to this image. Personal narratives are told in the first person, so you will use words like “I” and “me”. It is much like a journal. Tell us what they are thinking. Tell us what they might be worried, excited, or happy about.

***All of these responses will be shared on the “Hole” Voicethread. You need to be sure that you have 1 type of response for each image and that you have responded to all three images.

1) People under 18 should be punished for crimes the same way adults are.

2) It is better for young people to establish trust with their peers than with adults.

3) Someone who can't read is unintelligent.

4) It is good to talk about racism.

Comparing Tell-tale Heart Interpretations

“Tell-Tale Heart”

“Tell-Tale Heart”

We will be reading this classic short story in class and many of you have either already downloaded the audio version and some even downloaded it onto your iPod. COOL!

I found two interesting versions on the internet which might help build up our background information prior to reading.

View the following films of or dealing with the “Tell-Tale Heart”

Obviously the first one is an accurate depiction of Poe’s work as it incorporates a reading of the actual text.

Which media clip do you prefer, why? Which one would best help a reader to understand the actual story? (150 word min)
